36 Floors Down: : Get Your Hands on a Quackillion

Twenty-year-old, skinny-legged Willy Adams dreams of becoming a superspy, but fate took one look at those scrawny legs and landed him a job as an ordinary super-courier in one of the skyscrapers of the Dodger empire. Nobody takes his courier abilities seriously, so Willy has to put his still rather childish spy skills to work to prove that he is capable of great things.

His chance comes with his very first assignment—and it’s a big one: deliver a quackillion. The skyscraper’s owner, Ben Dodger, entrusts Willy with delivering a birthday gift to his grandmother. Ben is convinced that an entire quackillion will win over Grandma, the ruler of the Dodger empire, and persuade her to leave him the whole inheritance. But Grandma doesn’t believe in her scheming grandson’s sudden generosity. She gives him one condition: the gift must reach her by five o’clock, before she leaves for vacation. Otherwise, she’ll leave the entire fortune to the first hamster she happens to meet.

The assignment sounds simple enough—Grandma’s skyscraper is just one street away. Unfortunately, Ben’s two Dodger brothers, his secretary Charlie, the skyscraper employees, and even a gang of random criminals would all be more than happy to get their hands on a whole quackillion.

Within minutes, Willy makes it all the way down to the ground floor. There, however, he runs into the disguised criminals. While escaping from them, he somehow ends up right back on the top, 36th floor—only now without the quackillion. Willy must find and catch up with the delivery worker responsible for its disappearance.

During the chase through the skyscraper, Willy falls into the criminals’ hands. They have already captured Charlie and plan to give him a hard time, since he was the one responsible for Grandma’s birthday gift every year. When Charlie learns that the quackillion has been lost, he cunningly helps Willy escape the criminals. But Charlie has a plan of his own: let the clumsy “kid” find the money first—then he’ll simply take it from him.

Willy finally catches up with the delivery worker and discovers that the envelope containing the quackillion has somehow made its way back to Ben Dodger’s office. Now Willy has to steal it without being noticed. His first plan—to sneak in through the window—fails. So the super-courier, now acting more and more like a superspy, disguises himself as a pool cleaner and walks straight through the office door.

Willy grabs the envelope and makes a run for it, but Ben Dodger raises the alarm and orders the entire skyscraper locked down. Time is running out. It is already half past one.

Hiding from security throughout the enormous building, Willy eventually decides that his only way out is through the emergency exit in the basement. But everyone seems to be heading there at once: the criminals arrive carrying their captive Charlie, and Ben Dodger himself appears as well. The greedy skyscraper owner is now prepared to dismantle his entire building down to the last nut and bolt if that’s what it takes to find the mysterious thief and recover his quackillion.

A showdown erupts in the basement. Willy and “Saint” Charlie come out on top, with Charlie once again helping the super-courier while carefully hiding his true intentions. One last time, the elderly secretary saves Willy from the formidable Dodger brothers by keeping them trapped in the basement.

Willy races toward Grandma’s skyscraper. It is almost five o’clock.

With only five minutes left, Charlie suddenly confronts Willy outside Grandma’s building and orders him to hand over the quackillion. Willy refuses. He clenches the envelope between his teeth and unleashes every spy trick he has learned during the delivery.

The courier has a mission to complete.

Charlie never expected such determination from the clumsy “kid”—and loses.

At exactly five o’clock, Grandma appears. She takes the envelope from Willy’s teeth, counts the quackillion, and postpones her vacation.

Then comes the surprise: the quackillion is fake.

Grandma decides she has some urgent business to settle in her empire. She orders Charlie to buy a hamster—and Willy to deliver both the hamster and her last will and testament.
