Synopsis

At the model Gogol School, terrifying events begin to unfold after the arrival of a new school caretaker.

The caretaker disapproves of every new idea and threatens to bring in inspectors from the Ministry. This deeply worries PE teacher Roman Ivanovych, who falls asleep right in the middle of a class and dreams that he is fired after a Ministry inspection.

Roman tells his friends about the dream—the Singer, the music teacher, and the Artist, the art teacher—but they simply advise him to get some sleep and take a break from renovating his house.

Before long, Roman’s dream begins to come true: Ministry inspectors arrive at the school.

And with their arrival, Principal Lesia Ivanivna mysteriously disappears.

At the next staff meeting, the school has a new principal—Fifulya. Together with the caretaker, she imposes a new order built around Rules, Regulations, and Instructions.

Roman, the Singer, the Artist, and their students refuse to accept it.

Instead, they begin searching for their missing principal. Their investigation leads them to a secret basement, where they discover that Lesia Ivanivna is being held prisoner.

The teachers and students prepare a rescue plan, while Roman decides to go all the way to the Minister himself and tell him what is happening at their school.

There is just one problem.

The Minister is part of the conspiracy.

In fact, Fifulya, the caretaker, the inspectors—and the Minister himself—are all space pirates who have come to conquer Earth.

And there is only one thing the space pirates are afraid of:

the PE teacher’s whistle.

Unable to steal the whistle from Roman through trickery or force, Fifulya and the caretaker fire him.

Now Roman and his friends have only until midnight to rescue Principal Lesia and stop the alien invaders.

At midnight, the pirates are planning a grand banquet in the school cafeteria, with the Minister himself attending to celebrate their successful conquest of the planet.

Roman and his friends prepare to sneak into the celebration.

Their plan is simple.

Get inside.

Get close enough.

And blow that whistle as hard as possible.

At last, Roman is ready for the final battle...

Someone shoves him.

Roman opens his eyes.

A first-grader who got lost in the gym is trying to wake him up.

Roman realizes that everything—the inspectors, the secret basement, the imprisoned principal, the space pirates, the battle for Earth—was only a dream.

Or was it?

Later, in the real school corridor, Roman meets Principal Lesia Ivanivna.

She introduces him to the school’s new caretaker.

Then she reminds Roman that from now on, everyone must strictly follow the Rules and Instructions.

Roman looks at the new caretaker.

Something about him feels strangely familiar.

Maybe the nightmare is over.

Or maybe...

it is only beginning.

And Roman has a feeling he is going to need that whistle after all.
