But the supermarket employees are so bizarre that Vova soon realizes the tables have turned: now he’s the one who has to keep an eye on Mom.

Synopsis

Vova is fed up with his mom constantly looking after him—especially during summer vacation. She makes him clean up, keep everything tidy, and never seems to leave him alone.

And Vova knows exactly why.

Mom doesn’t have a job.

So he comes up with the perfect solution to his problem:

find Mom a job.

Before long, she is invited to an interview at a local supermarket. Vova goes with her to make absolutely sure she actually gets hired.

The store manager personally gives them a tour—and Vova quickly realizes that there is something very strange about this supermarket.

The manager himself is so clumsy that even an ordinary workday seems hazardous to his health. The cleaner walks around with a pillow tucked under his arm. The security guard wears flip-flops. And interns have a disturbing habit of disappearing inside the freezer.

Suddenly worried about what he has gotten his mom into, Vova decides he’d better stay close and keep an eye on her.

On her very first day, Mom nearly gets fired, while the security guard becomes convinced that Vova is a thief.

But as Vova spends more time at the supermarket, he gets drawn into its bizarre everyday life. And within just a few days, he even helps catch a gang of robbers.

Strangely enough, the supermarket starts running better.

Upper management is so impressed that the entire staff is rewarded with a vacation by the lake.

There is just one person who isn’t happy about it: the accountant. As far as he is concerned, the bonus money would have been much better divided between himself and the manager.

That display of greed immediately gets the accountant crossed off Vova’s private list of potential husbands for Mom.

Which leaves just one candidate:

Mr. Manager.

Vova comes up with a plan to bring Mom and Mr. Manager a little closer together.

And it works.

One day, Mom comes home from work glowing with happiness. Before she is even through the door, she excitedly tells Vova about her upcoming date with Mr. Manager.

She is so distracted that she doesn’t even notice herself dropping her shoes, handbag, and coat all over the house.

Vova quietly follows behind her, picking everything up and putting it back where it belongs.

Mom finally has a life of her own.

And Vova?

At last, he can look forward to a nice, peaceful summer vacation.
